Verse/Rann 1
Feasgar ciin an ts a' Chitein
On a quiet evening at the beginning of May

Nuair bha 'n ialtag anns na speuran
When the bat was in the skies

Chualaim rbhinn g 's i deurach
I heard a tearful young maiden

'Seinn fo sgil nan geugan uain'
Singing beneath the shadow of the green branches

Bha a' ghrian 'sa chuan gu soladh
The sun was setting in the sea

'S reult cha d' irich anns an iarmailt
And no stars yet graced the sky

Nuair a sheinn an igh gu cianail
When the young girl sang sorrowfully

"Tha mo ghaol air ird a' chuain"
"My love is on the high seas"

Verse/Rann 2
Thisich dealt na h-oidhch' ri tirling
The night's dew began to fall

'S lb am braon gu caoin na flrain
Each bloom yielding softly to the droplets

Shid a' ghaoth 'na h-oiteig chbhraidh
The wind blew in a fragrant breeze

Beatha 's rachd do gach cluan
Bringing life and renewal to each field

Ghleus an nighneag fonn a h-rain
The girl tunefully sang her song

Simh is ciin mar dhrichd an g-mhos
Quiet and peaceful like the June dew

'S bha an t-sisd seo 'g irigh 'n cmhnaidh
And this chorus constantly repeated

"Tha mo ghaol air ird a' chuain"
"My love is on the high seas"

Verse/Rann 3
Chiar an latha is dherrs' na reultan
Day darkened and the stars shone

Shel an r measg neul nan speuran
Setting their course amongst the clouds

Shuidh an igh, bha 'brn 'ga lireadh
The maiden sat, burdened by her sadness

'S cha robh digh air tmh no suain
Her singing could not have been more soothing

Theann mi faisg air reult nan g-bhean
I moved closer to the young woman

Sheinn mu 'gaol air chuan 'bha seladh
Singing of her love sailing on the sea

O bu bhinn a caoidhrean brnach
Oh sweet was her sad lament

"Tha mo ghaol air ird a' chuain"
"My love is on the high seas"

Verse/Rann 4
Rinn an cel le dein mo thladh
The music enticed me

Dlth do rbinn donn nam blth-shul
Nearer to the brown-haired maiden of the warm eyes

'S i ag rnaigh ris an rd-Rgh
And she prayed to the King of Heaven

"Don mo ghrdh 'th' air ird a' chuain"
"Protect my love on the high seas"

Bha a cridh' le gaol gu sgineadh
Her heart was breaking with love

Nuair a ghlac mi fhin air limh i
When I took her by the hand

"Siab do dheir, do ghaol tha sbhailt
"Wipe your eyes, your love is safe

Thill mi sln bhrr ird a' chuain"
I have returned to you safely from the high seas"
